From the Bucket to the Boardroom: A Lineman’s Next Chapter in Safety

After 20 years in the field, I’m proud to have worked nearly every position — from intern to Line Superintendent and Safety Coordinator. What started as a career quickly became a calling.

The safety side of linework came later in my journey, but it didn’t take long for it to become a true passion. Recently, I earned my Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) certification with an endorsement in Distribution & Transmission — a milestone that reminds me how much there still is to learn, even after two decades in the trade.

One of the best feelings as a Lineman was always flipping that breaker and seeing the lights come back on. Now, I’m just as excited to be part of a team that helps prevent outages before they happen. By identifying potential problems early, utilities can plan repairs safely, efficiently, and without the pressure of an emergency callout. In short — we’re keeping crews safer and lights brighter.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me out at the lake with my wife and our two kids. Between sports, boating, and outdoor adventures, they definitely keep us on our toes — and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Brock is excited for this chapter focused on prevention, safety, and teamwork — because every light that stays on is a win for all of us!

Sr. Technical Analyst Jerry Fales says, “We’re thrilled to welcome Brock to the Fast Forward team!
